William Jurian Kaula diary
The town crier had announced yesterday the request that the inhabitants would display the national colors in commemeration [sic] of the triumphant return of President Faure in Paris after his glorious visit to the Tzar of Russia, and the completion of the details of the alliance between France and Russia. We made a great effort to decorate Hôtel Poulain in honor of the event by displaying a large Russian flag besides a French and two of the Stars and Stripes, the latter colors being the most conspicuous. During the evening we festooned the windows with Japanese lanterns. Crécy had quite a holiday aspect.
