Carrie Wilson House Revisited
An alert reader noted that the Carrie Wilson house is located on Porter Hill Road. It appears in one of the photos taken by Charles Plumer. The first house on right.

James Roger diary entry
13th June 1908 (Saturday)
Very warm day wind E. David painting at the Club House. Jim and I went for pea brush in morning and I cut trimmed some lots. Hamish, May and the bairns came this afternoon. Four cows were wandering round the streets and we put them in the square and telephoned to Greenville, Mason & Highbridge and believe they belong to Cunningham who lives at Ford Reeds Hotel. Children’s day at Grange today.

William Jurian Kaula diary - William meets his future wife
We had two fair visitors to-day who came here with Mr. Clark. They were Misses Lee Lufkin and Claire Shuttleworth and were searching after rooms-particularly those that we now occupy.
If heat is a satanic invention it surely made this beautiful day uncomfortably hot. Monsieur Travet is one of the "oldest inhabitants" and declared that it was the hottest day within his memory.
The two young ladies affected us quite a little as we were fast going to see from neglect - and they spoke too of being so sad and lonely on rainy days and did not dare to wander around alone in the beautiful and long twilights which, in these spring days lasts sometimes until ten o'clock. I notice now that Mr. H. does not wear his trousers which have seen better days when they were less like an old battle-flag perforated here and there after a vigorous campain [campaign]. The young ladies would die of ennui at Voulangis and soon removed to Crécy were [sic] the surroundings will be much more agreeable for them.
*Miss L. is five feet ten inches above the ground while Miss S. is perhaps about the average height. Both appear to be reasonably near my own age and have been in Europe two or three years.
Note: Lee Lufkin would eventually marry William Jurian Kaula
