Another view behind the wall
The trellis of the Newell-Hurd house on Main Street
James Roger diary entry
31st May 1912
Cold and drizzly; wind north and northwest; cold enough for snow. David and Daniel painting at Daniel Brown’s cottage. John Preston came in the afternoon. Hamish and I fixed garden fence this afternoon.
Was this the summer home of George Newell Hurd the famous badminton player from Milton, Mass?
I wonder where all the round stones for the wall came from. Somewhere in New Ipswich there must have been a sandbank with a lot of glacial till—river rocks from prehistory.
