August 1918
Tragic Death of Mrs. Florence G. (Davis) Kingsbury.
A letter has just been received from National City, California, announcing that Mrs. Florence G. (Davis) Kingsbury had committed suicide by the inhalation of illuminating gas. Mrs. Kingsbury was the widow of Henry L. Kingsbury and was а раtient at the Paradise Valley sanatorium in California. While there, during the last of August, the act took place. Mrs. Kingsbury had not been well for some time. The sudden loss of her husband and other calamities preyed upon her mind and temporarily unbalanced her.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Benjamin and Helen M. (Bailey) Davis, long residents, and among the most respected citizens of this town. Mr. and Mrs. Kingsbury were widely known in the city of Fitchburg and Greenville, N. H., in both of which places he conducted business and worked assiduously. After the death of Mrs. Davis in 1912 Mr. Davis, in 1913, concluded to dispose of his real estate and personal property and remove to Ocean Beach, California, with Mr. and Mrs. Kingsbury and make his home during his sunset of life. Within a few years his death occurred.
The children and immediate survivors of Mr. and Mrs. Kingsbury are Mrs. Robert L. McLean and Alberta Gertrude Kingsbury.

James Roger diary entry
21st February 1913
Mild; wind variable. David & Daniel went for sawdust in forenoon and David got Hall ready for Dance after; also, picking 2 chickens. I was in the house all day suffering from cramp in my bowels.
Poor old Florence. Nowadays they could probably help someone in her distraught condition with therapy and meds. The family must have been devastated.
And poor old James. Sounds like he was suffering from something like irritable bowel syndrome. They can help with those types of conditions too these days with meds and diet.
That is Dottie Perry in the little car in front of my 49 Ford pickup.
