William Jurian Kaula diary
12 FEB 1898
Logan asked Monsieur Collin to come up into the studio this morning to see our canvases - Logan's painting of an interior with a figure and Glover's composition, both were painted last summer in Concarneau, and also my landscape which I copied. I was anxious to hear what M. Collin would say about the landscape though I regard Mr. Dearth's criticisms as more valuable as he is a landscape painter. Collin pointed out the defects that most good painters would naturally see - like values and color, while Mr. Dearth was emphatic upon quality and atmosphere as a whole. But Collins suggestions were right to the point and I was pleased with his remarks. With Logan and Glover he went into things more and found much that would be of more value to them when they painted another similar subject.

James Roger diary entry
12th (Wednesday)
Frost 26 degrees – fine mild day and wind N.E. to S.E. David logging for Walker. Mother and I lifted matting in Jim’s room. Jim and I cleaned out stalls for cows in barn heifers out for a run.
I enjoyed seeing those Wapack Lodge photos. In the 1950s I did a lot of 'bushwacking' around Barrett Mt and the Wapack trail was my 'anchor' in case I got lost. I was mostly an 'offtrail' hiker and used paper topography maps to get myself from point a to point b, somewhat like the Geocache people do today.
