This is one of the many mystery photos we have. We have no idea of who this is, where or when it was taken. However I understand the context from her expression. It is the moment when you are writing and have to look inside to find what your next sentence will be. I wonder if we do the same in front of a computer screen or holding a phone. I doubt she is using an emojis or acronyms.

Dull, threatening rain wind east. Fair cool day. David at Walker’s in forenoon. Hardy’s in afternoon. I filled John Preston’s vase and planted asters &c in our front garden. Got vestry ready for sewing circle and filled hall lamps for Grange tonight. Got letter from Jessie.

The lady writing the letter looks like Mrs. Preston to me.
