Whirlpool Bridge spanning the Souhegan River in Bank Village. Undated photo. I assume this was located near the “whirlpool” in the river.

24th (Wednesday)
Frost fine mild day. Snow melting and water running. David at Walt Whitney’s sale. Bought a pair of wheels and ice box. Pete sick today. Saw a bluebird in orchard today. Masonic meeting tonight.
I came across this paragraph in Chandler's history of New Ipswich:
"In 1828 the river road from the High Bridge to the Mason
(now Greenville) town line was constructed, and in 1836 the
road extending southeasterly from the Congregational church
and meeting the road from the Bank Village to Dr. Stillman
Gibson's at "the whirlpool." " I used to walk this 'road' (it had 2 tracks and grass in the middle) from my home at the Whirlpool ,which is where it began, to the Congregational Church. This makes me think that the old foundation my father and I used for the house we built was once the foundation for the Stillman house.
Although the bridge and building behind the trees were no longer there in 1950 this looks like the spot where the whirlpool was. I used to launch my boat from the spot just to the right. There is now a small house just to the right of that building in the photo. The Adams family used to own it. A new bridge was built further upstream. On Google maps this new road leads to an area that has been cleared, not sure what's happening there.
