James Roger diary entry
19th (Thursday)
Dull but fair and mild wind west & south west frost pretty hard in morning. 17 above down town. David teaming for Village Improvement Society opposite post office. Got letter from Alice and p.c. from Hamish, both well. Milkman brought coops from express office. I filled boiler, put cows out for a run in the snow. Set rat traps and closed rat hold above front door.

Baking one hundred pies at the New Ipswich Congregational Church to be distributed on Thanksgiving at the Saint Vincent DePaul food bank in Greenville.
Nice to see people helping people at the local level. More like the 'old days' when the town had an overseer of the poor (e.g. Walter Thayer, W. D. Ashley, etc.) and a budget for that purpose. I commend Linda Kivela and her friends for their work on behalf of their community. With regards to Appleton, I wish it could have continued.
How appropriate with the pie pictures. This once again just happened this wee, 8 years later. Karyn and I are delivering 109 pies to SVDP this morning for their Thanksgiving Baskets.
