Winthrop Howland Wade, only son of Winthrop Howland and Caroline (Barr) Wade, of Dedham, Mass., was instantly killed Thursday, Aug. 27, in an automobile accident in Murdo, S. D. He was returning home after a year's stay in Los Angeles. Mr. Wade was born Feb. 18, 1898. He prepared for college at the Noble and Greenough school and attended Harvard college from 1916 to 1918. He was formerly associated with a Boston brokerage office and was not married.
Mr. Wade's maternal ancestors, the Barr family, have for generations been prominent citizens of this town. His mother now owns the Barrett mansion. He was the nephew of James Cummings Barr and Miss Laura M. Barr. His grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth (Lawrence) Barrett, was generous in gifts to this town. His father is a prominent Boston lawyer and secretary of the Harvard board of overseers.

Drizzly raw day, wind east and northeast. David went to Depot with Newcombs’ luggage and brought grain, water bag, cognac, etc. Mother had a good night and still improving. She keeps to her bed now. Doctor pleased with her condition. Got letter from Hamish and May. Walter Thayer gave David orders to paint the cemetery fence. He whitewashed Jim Davis’ cellar this afternoon. Mrs. Spofford and Miss Palmer are coming tonight. David going to the Academy tonight to the play and dance.
