William Jurian Kaula diary
Most of the events of this past week are hardly worth the chronicle. Our attention has been drawn toward many things - cheifly [sic] with the topic of the omnipresent weather. Of the climate of France very much can be said but most of it would be unfit for these pages. The only profitable time can be spent on small studies while the effects that we have on larger canvases must wait until less changeable weather. We have a little recreation in going to Crécy on an occasional evening where we exchange ideas on art and people. Our work will be releived [sic] somewhat this coming week by the fêtes at Crécy - I am always writing about fêtes because they form the chief amusement of the people. We witnessed the grand torchlight parade this evening. Some fifty boys with Japanese lanterns marched to the doubtful music of bugle and drums. We had read the tri-colored poster announcing the events of the fête in great type but did not expect to be fooled in this way. There are a few joys left, however, in the never failing delight of the flying horses, the shooting galleries, besides a small circus where I intend to go in state (clean shirt) with Miss S. The young ladies have been busy hunting after "interiors" to paint and inspecting old men and women, priests, and peasants for models. They talk about the Salons' in a knowing way that shows that their works have been "exposed" perhaps several times. Artists do not "exhibit" over here, they "expose" their works.

New Business
Country Club: A member of the New Ipswich Country Club offered the use of the facility to the NIHS. John R. met with Bentti Hoiska to explore the possibility. An advantage is it’s more spacious than the library. However, it lacks wifi and is unheated in the off-season. Possible uses discussed for the country club are another “antiques roadshow” or an actual presentation on the history of the club.
Donation: The Eaton family donated a print of Appleton Academy from 1860 and a duplicate 1976 calendar.
Next Open Dates: June 25- John R & Sharon
July 9 - Pat
July 23- Craig
Five Year Plan- At the next meeting, Mitch will lead a planning activity. The intention will be to cull information from members about desired future improvements. Members will share ideas on Post-its that will be categorized and prioritized. Later Mitch will create a Gantt chart to organize the information. The planning will help to set guidelines and create an achievable vision.
Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on July 21 at 7 :00 PM at
Kim & Mich’s, located on Page Hill Road. The first part of the meeting will be business, but the focus will be the five-year plan. Bring ideas.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 PM.
Respectfully submitted, Sharon Rosenfelder
