Much of what the early Boy Scouts in Town learned would be excellent for boys today under intelligent and sound moral leadership, I would think. And acquiring skills to survive outdoors and build responsibility and citizenship, along with horsing around and having fun with other kids, sounds better than staring at electronic screens. Are the Boy Scouts still active in the area?
I had a great experience and fond memories of the Boy Scouts growing up. Sadly I think they have lately lost their mission. That should be an opportunity for another organization to fill the vacuum.
Any idea where the cave was / is that the early scouts used for initiation rights? The article says that it was near an abandoned lumber camp, which was about 1 mile from the post office, which at that time stood where the library parking lot is today.

Thanks, John, for posting that bit of Scout history.
