Excellent news about building of the Wapack Trail. Does its system include any of the trails over at Windblown? Or that trail over Kidder on which I fell bushwhacking like a maniac on XC skis about 50 years ago?
Hi Patricia. Yes, the original route of the Wapack Trail went past the former Wapack Lodge on what is now Wapack Road, and connected to what became the Windblown ski trails near the summit, climbing on the east side of Windblown. The trail was re-located few years ago to go up the Windblown driveway and along the west side of Windblown. This keeps the trail all on one property. The Kidder Mt. Trail was also laid out by Marion and Frank.
So Marion had an occasional Sunday off. She seemed grateful for that. It seems most of the time she was doing something 7 days/wk. I spent a lot of time in areas she described 65 yrs ago. I can't imagine cattle drives happening there.
