Frank Preston surely was cute. What’s the house in the background? It looks familiar somehow. Mansard roof?
And what a fine horse Old Joe was. Part thoroughbred?
My father talked about fuel rationing that occurred during WWII. But he said if one was willing to pay exorbitant money under the table, it was available on the black market in Fitchburg, I think.
I read that F W Preston contributed the lumber to build the dam in the central cemetery in 1890. Unless there are 2 F W Prestons, that photo had to be from the 1860s.
I can’t imagine my great grandfather had a race horse, I think Ole Joe was hooked up to a plow or a hay wagon , Walter was all about production , I heard many stories about twitching logs with horses, the welfare of the horses was of the utmost importance as they were so important to the families welfare

I noticed that house also. It looks like Lionel Blais house, on Turnpike, across from the Cayward house.
Nope. Across from N.I. Library near Union Hall
