Undated news clipping (circa 1915)
It must have been a slow news day when this was posted. However the members of the Society felt it was worthy of being included in their scrapbook.
Mrs. Genevieve Hastings' return to Boston on Thursday was made a little earlier than she had planned on account of the return home of Mr. Hastings. Josiah Webber, her father, was born on the day that New Ipswich purchased of Paul Revere the old town bell which was destroyed with the burning of the Congregational church, 13 years ago.

James Roger diary entry
October 5th 1908 (Monday)
Frosty morning fine day, wind W. to S.E. David took took 2 carts sods and one cart loam for Gordon’s lot. Took Berkely to Depot and cutting sods for Webber lot. Berkley fixed parlor stove and filled a barrel of apples. I worked all day on the Gordon lot extension. Caucus meeting tonight. (I did not attend it) but W.A. Preston was chosen representative and Isham Aldrich, moderator at Democratic caucus. Willis Ramsdell was chosen representative.
Thank you for posting the photograph of Genevieve Webber and friends. Her daughter, Mildred Hastings, was my first piano teacher and a true eccentric. As a Seventh day Adventist, she would arrive Saturday morning to discuss religious topics with my mother, who kindly welcomed her. I will never forget her “bathing costume” which she wore when paddling in the town pool in the summer. Also, I bought at the Children’s Fair several pieces of furniture which had belonged to Caroline Lowe, so it’s enjoyable to see what she looked like, in such a clear photo.
