James Roger diary entry
10th March 1913
Milder, wind variable west to southeast. David and Daniel picking browntails in front of Prestons’ and in cemetery in forenoon. Daniel went to Supervisor’s office in afternoon and David split wood. I fixed Hall for Town meeting tomorrow. Got Hamish’s letter.
Alice Wheeler was a teacher in the Highbridge school. Dixon, her husband, was a lot like James Roger, a common man who was road agent for Smithville at the same time that Adolphe Rochon (the man my grandmother moved in with after divorcing my grandfather) was road agent for Highbridge. Dixon also did house repairs including shingling Sarah Lee Fisk's house. Mary in the photo was their daughter.
