20th (Thursday)
Cool and clear wind N.W. David at Club House. I trimmed 2 lots and felt tired in afternoon and went to bed after dinner. Alice and Jessie picked blueberries and brambles. Mother also picked some. Mr. Blanchard called this morning to see about Mr. Preston’s fountain in the Cemetery.

It will be a week of loafing, a vacation in which I will not touch a brush. Hazard is feeling much better and has decided not to go home. We ride daily on our wheels chiefly in the Bois de Boulogne where there are thirty miles of roadways. We have taken one ride some distance outside of Paris along the Seine going near the cities of Colombes, Clichy and St. Dennis. There were extensive and unimpressive views of coal-wharves, groups of canal boats. The Seine is not very attractive where it is neither country nor city and only straggling bits of both.
