Historical Society Notes
A meeting of the Historical society was held in the public library last Fri- day afternoon with the usual attendance of active members. Interesting letters of the late Hon. Alfred C. Converse of East Rindge relating many historical events of New Ipswich, were read by Mrs. Hattie P. McKown
Mrs. S. Dana Blood presented the society with a moulding board which she had used all her married life. This was made from a panel of the old Parson Farrar's church, which stood opposite the old cemetery on the hill, and was given Stephen Dana Blood by C. C Bellows, a former owner of the Dr. Francis N. Gibson house, now owned by Mrs. S. Phillips.
This ancient church was erected in 1768 and was the largest building with- in a radius of 20 miles of here. It stood for. 48 years and was finally demolished in 1816. The materials were employed in the erection of the present town hall and the second academy building. This edifice had two floors; the recitation rooms were on the second floor, while the town hall was on the first floor.
