Another mystery. I’m guessing King Road.

William Jurian Kaula diary
21 APR 1898
The Senate and the House have agreed on a joint resolution which calls for armed intervention in Cuba. Spain must evacuate the island or fight. The ultimatum will be sent to Spain today. The only one chance for peace is that Spain will withdraw. This is not probable. There is not the slightest sign of yielding at Madrid. The Cortes (Congress) meets today. Señor Sagasta in his speech in the Senate leaves but little doubt of the course of action to be followed. Spain is incensed at the insults from America. Our only motive is to deprive them of Cuba. There are wrongs on our side to be sure, the disorder in Cuba has been prolonged by our assistance and help which the Government was not able to wholly prevent. Our sympathy for the suffers in Cuba was so great that we morally helped the Insurgents and encourage the revolt. Judging from this alone we have committed a breach of International Law but other facts of greater importance mentioned in The Message gives us the right of interfering.

James Roger diary entry
21st (Wednesday)
Cold raw day wind east. David teaming home wood for Knowlton. I fixed brooder lamps, chicks coming out. Davis boy fixing a lot in cemetery today. Got letters from Alice & Hamish who is afternoon boss “pro tem”.
Just for the fun of it I did an internet search for "Walter Thayer's dog" and in 2 seconds a clip from the Fitchburg Sentinel (Dec 11,1903) popped up. It described how Walter Thayer's dog retrieved Curtis Huckins' heifer which was on the loose. The dog held the heifer by the cheek until Curtis could get to it. This dog has 30 rescues to his credit. I wonder if young Phil Thayer has ever heard about his great grandfather's legendary dog?
I think you're right. I think the man at the end of the road walking his dog is Walter Thayer. :)
