John H. White for Governor (NH)
James Roger diary entry
January 30, 1909 (Saturday)
Stormy day wind N.E. to N.W. Snow showers and drifting a little. David teaming from mountain to Depot. I made out Selectmen’s accounts and went to Engine Hall with them in the afternoon. George Sargent went over the sidewalk in the afternoon. Got letter from Alice and pc from Hamish, also papers from Roslin.
Arthur Thayer went to Harvard in 1911, was a veteran of WWI, briefly worked at Macy's, and later in the 1920s was VP of Allen A Hosiery in Wisconsin and in 1938 became president of Allen-A Hosiery in Bennington, Vt. His son, Walter, was a fighter in WWII who flew 50 missions in the Pacific. He had a summer home on Tenney Rd. In November 1943 he was found dead in his kitchen in New Ipswich. It was ruled a suicide. He had an older brother Frank who drowned at age 14.
I was curious. Looks like John White ran for governor twice but fell well short of being elected.
