Nice old photos.

I’m wondering what a piano case was in those days. A huge shipping crate? Nowadays if you google “piano case” you find a variety of bag in which to haul around electronic instruments, which aren’t really pianos. You will never get the same resonance as with a nice acoustic instrument.

I have to give the Thayers credit for their achievements. They hard working and not afraid to get their hands dirty. They were more like the average family than I thought when I worked for them. Phil and his wife are shown cultivating (with a horse no less) and planting what I think are blueberry bushes. The family photo was taken at the Preston camp (the site is now owned by Ollie Niemi). If that is Billy Thayer in the photo, then I say the photo was taken in 1935.

Is the Red Cross in the Window of the Thayer’s home mean they were Red Cross volunteers or a safe haven?
