I read in the New Ipswich history that for many years after Stephen Farrar's death, church people would come and sing hymns at his grave site on the anniversary of his passing. My guess is that the practice faded as those who personally knew him passed away. It would be a nice tradition to have kept.

Always nice to see a photo of my friend Carl. The Whalleys were from Boston, although Maude, an excellent mandolin player, lived in Fitchburg for 15 yrs and was the daughter of Dr. Whalley and Angela, an excellent banjo player, and music teacher who also played the pianoforte. They toured New England in the 1890s and were friends with the Hildreths and Gibsons. Maude's middle name was Evangeline.
